A
petition calling for a
return to bottle deposits
was presented to the Tasman
District Council yesterday.
The petition, signed by
more than two thousand
locals
asks that the TDC advocate
on a national level for
bottle deposits as a sustainable
way of reducing waste.
In presenting the petition to the TDC, Duncan Eddy, spokesperson for Motueka's Community Action For People And Planet, said recycling of glass is inefficient and creates headaches for local communities.
Duncan Eddy claims that this country's glass recycling capacity has been reached and its costing us environmentally and economically to send recycled glass to Australia.
